Social dialogue in the banking sector

Group 1 - Identifying contractual provisions and practices which can be considered discriminatory and devising corrective measures.

Stage One: Analysis of contractual terms in collective agreements in the banking sector.

Examples:

  1. Contractual terms that stipulate a different career progression timescales for part-time and full-time workers.
  2. Agreements to reduce personnel by introducing early retirement for staff aged over fifty.
  3. Contractual clauses concerning complementary social security provision.

Stage Two: Simulation of negotiations to remove discriminatory clauses 

Group 2 - Identifying excluded or poorly represented groups within the overall workforce, and in positions of responsibility, or of employer practices which can lead to discrimination.

Stage One: Identifying groups and practices

Examples:

  1. Male and female workers who have to reconcile work and care duties.
  2. Female workers who return to work after maternity leave.
  3. Male and female workers in the over-35 age group who are excluded from career paths.
  4. Homosexuals.
  5. Workers suffering from chronic illnesses.
  6. Employer practices: attendance bonus; company bonuses; fringe benefits; refusal to allow mothers on maternity leave to attend training courses; specific criteria covering promotions; biased choices for dismissal of individuals.

Stage Two: Simulation of negotiations on agreements to include excluded or poorly represented groups in the workforce or on plans to remove discrimination.

Group 3 - Negotiation of projects to promote diversity

Stage One: Identifying the target groups.

Examples:

  1. The disabled
  2. Women
  3. Prospecting for new clients from within the Roma or Muslim minority groups.

Stage Two: Simulation of negotiations on projects to promote diversity.

Group 4 - Project to produce a handbook on negotiations to combat discrimination and promote diversity

Stage One: Identifying the contents, materials, objectives and recipients of the handbook.

Stage Two: Identifying the guidelines.

Stage Three: Examples of good practices.

Stage Four: Identifying forms of dissemination.
